I subscribed to the diywelder list since it's inception.  It was an active 
mail list that solved a lot of problems.  the list owner converted it to 
forum with an email gateway 6 months ago.  The list traffic has dropped to 
almost nothing.  I posted a question there a week ago, and so far ZERO 
responses.  In my experience, forums kill mailing lists.  I like the myth 
list.  My server downloads my emails every 5 minutes.  They are always stored 
locally.  I use IMAP to access them from anywhere on my network.  Not 
terribly practical if you are on dialup, but when I had dialup a year and a 
half ago, I dialed up every hour and downloaded messages.  The myth list 
works well the way it is.  I don't see anyone changing it.
