You can turn the fade off - so not exactly a fix, but a workaround.

You'll need to edit your OSD theme file and set fadeaway to 0.

On my system its /usr/local/share/mythtv/themes/Titivillus-OSD/osd.xml 
and the relevant line is :-

<fadeaway>0</fadeaway>
