[mythtv-users] Pundit

First you should keep in mind that the 200watt number is pretty much
meaningless. What you want to know are what is the max output of the
+5v,+3.3v rail and the max output of the +12v rail. The rail max amps
are what are going to tell you how much you can actually install.

Let me show you what I mean.

Here is that PS on the pundit

+5v Max 4.0A
+12v Max 9.5A
+3.3v Max 8.0A

My Antec TruPower 430 in comparison

+5v Max 36A
+12v Max 20A
+3.3v Max 28.0A

Of course with the Antec the total wattage of all the rails cannot
exceed 410W total output for all the rails combined. This means I could
max some rails, but not all of them at the same time. This is a feature
of the Antec where they isolate the rails to make sure the components
that need the power get it.

If we crunch the numbers on the 200Watt PS based on the specs you get
access to about 160Watts total, assuming you max all the rails. So in
effect that 200Watt PS is only a 160Watt for practical purposes. Isn't
marketing lovely. :) With that 200Watt there is a 40watt gap between
marketing and what is actually wattage you can use. The antec is only 20
watts different. Antec oversells by 4.6%, Asus by 20%.

Also this system is a 533Mhz FS PIV? I would definitely not recommend
any 533Mhz PIV systems. 800Mhz systems are the same price and the
higher FSB makes a difference.

Cheers,

Terrence
