Why FC2 users?  Looks more like an ATI/Matrox problem in Xorg to me.  
The original poster was using Gentoo and only one of the comments 
mentions fedora (another mentions Mandrake).  However they all seem have 
Xorg with ATI/Matrox in common.

I am using FC2 with nVidia 6106 drivers on two machines with no problems.
