The key is to remove the basic channels from the digital listing (you'll
have to do it manually, instructions on removing channels are in the
documentation).  The same channel would never be in both listings.

With this setup, it will use the composite input to record any digital
only (or premium) channels, then if it's going to record a basic channel
it will use the television input of either of the cards.  It will never
use the cable box to view a basic channel as those channels have been
removed from the listing.

You would want any tuners with ONLY television input to take priority. 
That way, if you're using two tuners and it starts recording a basic
channel, you will still have your digital channels available for live
tv.
