Well, MythTV is mainly a Television-oriented system, hence the "TV" in
"MythTV". ;) If you want to capture from a non-TV video source, there is
generally no need for most or all of what MythTV does.

I actually find it more difficult to use MythTV to capture from a camcorder or
VCR, it's much simpler to just use a general capture application. I sometimes
even just use dd or cat.

If most people are like me, their MythTV boxes are dedicated to TV use. It's
pretty inconvenient to reboot your living room TV to start up windows just to
capture some video from some other device, then reboot back to Linux and
MythTV. You can certainly do that if you want to, but I'd personally use a
different computer since I consider my MythTV box dedicated to TV use. That's
all I need, to miss recording one of my wife's programs because I rebooted
the box into Windows to do something else. ;)

I got 3 PVR-250MCE cards for about $80 each a few months ago, and am extremely
happy with the bang for the buck. I'm considering a PVR-350 but so far
haven't felt a need for one, my GeForce II GTS card drives my TV just fine
and looks better than my Tivo so I'll probably wait until the 350 driver
support matures more.
