To try and make things a bit more clear.

Im using Knoppix-latest installed to HDD,
Running 2.6.5 kernel

Matrox g550 agp duel head.
My kernel config for the 2.6.5 is as follows.

CONFIG_FB=y
CONFIG_VIDEO_SELECT=y
CONFIG_FB_MATROX=y
CONFIG_FB_MATROX_MILLENIUM=y
CONFIG_FB_MATROX_MYSTIQUE=y
CONFIG_FB_MATROX_G450=y
CONFIG_FB_MATROX_G100=y
CONFIG_FB_MATROX_I2C=m
CONFIG_FB_MATROX_MAVEN=m
CONFIG_FB_MATROX_MULTIHEAD=y
CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_DUMMY_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_PCI_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_FONT_8x8=y
CONFIG_FONT_8x16=y

Dmesg shows me my Matrox G550 fine.

matroxfb: matrox G550 detected
matroxfb: MTRR's tuned on
matroxfb: 640:480:8bpp (virtual 640x65536)
matroxfb: framebuffter at 0xE40000000, mapped to 0xe080d000, size 3354432)
fb0: Matrox framebuffer device
fb0: initalizing hardware
then future down dmesg .....

matroxfb_crtc3: secondary head of fb0 was registered at fb1
-------------------------------------------------
lspci -v shows....

"02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Matrox Graphics, Inc. MGA G550 AGP (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [VGA])

------------------------------------------------

my /etc/directfbrc shows as follows:-

matrox-crtc2
matrox-tv-standard=pal
-------------------------------------------------

fbset says framebuffer is set to /dev/fb0 and when i use fbset to change it to /dev/fb1

it still doesnt fix the problem.

Firstly keeping it on /dev/fb0 will output mythtv to Framebuffer on the Monitor in 640 res 8bpp very ugly.

If i change it to /dev/fb1, Mythtv doesn't showup only the debug info from mythfrontend running...

for example. /dev/cdrom found...

Found mythbackend etc.. But no picture.

It's odd because Mplayer has no issue playing picture to the TV using the -vo dfbmga switch.

Anyone got any ideas i've been stuck on this for over a week now.
