If by 'recorded playback' you mean playback of a recorded program in 
MythTV (*not* the mythvideo plugin), then your problem is probably not 
related to playback audio.  I'd suggest running both mythbackend & 
mythfrontend from an xterm, and see if any error messages are printed.

The other thing you might check is your recording profile settings for 
the 'LiveTV' profile.

Beyond that, if you want a decent diagnosis of your problem, please 
provide detailed information about your configuration, including Myth 
settings and exactly what you can and can't do successfully within 
Myth.
