No, there is one really important difference. You can't use your approach if
the show you're interested in just isn't showing. Let's for instance take my
situation: I lack the first few episodes of a show because I always realised
one or two weeks too late that some channel started a re-run. Now,
undoubtedly some channel sometime will schedule a re-run again. But when I
cannot tell MythTV in advance about it, I'll probably miss it, yet again...
