make sure the user you run mythtv as has read and write access to
/dev/lircd. Either chmod your /dev/lircd (or whatever it is) to 666 or
chown mythtv to it.

Subject: [mythtv-users] what's the secret with lirc

I've compiled myth with LIRC support, lircd is running:

[mythtv at mythtv ~]$ ps -ef | grep lircd
root 4605 1 0 Apr04 ? 00:00:00 lircd
mythtv 7528 4962 0 08:49 pts/2 00:00:00 greplircd
[mythtv at mythtv ~]$

irw tells me that the remote is working:

[mythtv at mythtv mythtv]# irw
000000037ff07be1 00 Up mceusb
000000037ff07be1 01 Up mceusb
000000037ff07be0 00 Down mceusb
000000037ff07be0 01 Down mceusb
000000037ff07bde 00 Right mceusb
000000037ff07bde 01 Right mceusb
000000037ff07bdf 00 Left mceusb
[mythtv at mythtv mythtv]#

but when I launch myth it can't connect:

04-05 08:48:18 Enabled verbose msgs :all
mythtv: could not connect to socket
mythtv: Permission denied
lirc_init failed for mythtv, see preceding messages

What am I missing here?

thx
Daniel
