David,

I'm CC'ing the MythTV-users list because you're not
the first to ask me how to setup an irman with MythTV.
I couldn't seem to find this information in the
archives (or if it was there, I missed it).

I don't use my irman anymore because setting it up
requires recompiling a couple of packages. It's not
difficult, but very time consuming, and it's such a
waste since my PVR-250 and PVR-350 have an IR receiver
that works with my universal remote.

That said, here's how I went about getting it to work.
This was a few months ago (at least), so things may
have changed now.

1. Download and compile libirman. Back when I was
doing this, the lirc team didn't have the correct
version (lirc wanted 0.4.2, but they only had 0.4.1 on
their page) - I had to find it externally. It now
looks like they might have the right version in their
downloads section.
2. After building libirman, you need to compile lirc,
and enable irman support. If you follow the lirc
compilation instructions, you should be able to
navigate through the ncurses-based setup and select
the irman as the device.
3. Now you need your configuration file. I wasn't
able to get the lirc recording tool to work reliably,
so I used a tool within libirman to generate a config
file, then used a tool called irman2lirc, included
with lirc (in the contrib directory).

That done, it worked fairly well, although now that I
have my universal remote working with my Hauppauge
cards, I don't bother with the irman anymore.

The documentation for libirman can give you better
details than I can off the top of my head.
