As others have already suggested, this is almost surely not a problem with 
the application itself. In my experience, the typical sources of kernel 
panics are:

1. A RAM problem, something others have already suggested.

2. A power-supply problem, something others have already suggested.

3. An overheating problem.

4. A problem with the kernel itself. Examples of problems of this sort are 
a flaky driver (module) and problems with using a swap partition.

The best way I've found to get a handle on these problems ... better than 
checking the logs, since panics often occur too fast to be logged ... is to 
run an ssh session on the host, and run "top" in it. Even when the remote 
system fails, the ssh screen on the local system will retain the last 
display, so you can see a lot about what was happening just before the panic.
