The *binary* drivers on the http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=325 page are in fact
very kernel dependent, even though they (via) say 'not kernel dependent'.
But what they mean is that the binary contains all the precompiled versions.
This means the via binary drivers only work for specific distributions
(redhat 8,9, suse 8.1, mandrake 9).
If you have another distro you are out of luck (gentoo, debian, etc).
And probably also if you have downloaded updates to the kernel from the vendor.

Via definitively need to use something similar like I have heard nvidia does with
their binary kernel modules (part source and part binary).

I have yet to put the effort in to get the "lite" source to compile.
Since that is the only source I am going to get my hands on I hope
it is enough for using the mgeg encoder (*the lite source* that is).
I have some hope since the clexf lite 28 source seems to contain ddmpeg,
when I did a cursory inspection.
