follow up to my own post.... i now have alsa 0.9.6 running and sound is functional with my pundit. i recompiled my kernel (2.4.20-gentoo-rc6) with v4l support and my ati wonder ve is recognized. now i'm off to add mythdvd and to try to get my ati remote functional. -george
