[mythtv-users] Xbox Front-end Release 0.3 CD Version Problem

Hi,

OK, release 0.3 with all the plugins and the somewhat larger MythTV 0.11
turns out to be too large for the 64MB memory of the Xbox. Due to this the
CDRom version of 0.3 is unable to work from CD. The mythfrontend process
gets terminated as soon as the memory fills. Doh!

The solution is to use a swap file on the FatX partition. Extract the swap
file from the mythtv-xbox.0.3.swap.tar.bz2 archive and place it into the
root of your E: partition.
Now add the following line to your /etc/fstab file right under the first
line.

/dev/hda50	/mnt/fatx	fatx	defaults	0	0

and now change LINE 3 to be

/mnt/fatx/swap	none	swap	sw	0	0

Make sure you have the mount for the fatx partition BEFORE the line to mount
the swap or it will not work.

Sorry to anyone trying to figure out what they are doing wrong trying to get
a CD only version running.

This should still be pretty friendly to being shutdown unexpectedly. I doubt
the swap file will be damaged. If you find yourself back at the desktop X
every time you attempt to run Myth, and you are in the habit of flicking the
Xbox off with out shutting down, try replacing the swap file with a fresh
copy.
