Correct, typically done with Samba, but I didn't want to load Samba so the
one Windows machine at home could print.  I searched around for third
party software to use the LPD que from Windows and eventually found
instruction on a University website for setting up XP to use native LPD
support.  It was rather simple IIRC and works quite well.  If I wasn't
able to get it to use LPD it wouldn't have been a big deal, the computer
is used just about for the sole purpose of my wife playing The Sims, it
just wouldn't have been able to print.
