Much of those capabilities via sphinx, festival, via voice outloud,  et al 
already exist in misterhouse

You might have a look at how they implement this.

Personally, one day when I actually have some free time, it would be nice to 
play around with getting misterhouse and mythtv playing nicely together.

ME: (speaking to wall mounted mic's) Computer what's on tv tonight
COMPUTER: well Harondel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, episode: Once more with 
feeling, is on, on channel 12, would you like me to record it?
ME: yes please
