I use a 10Mbit hub to connect my frontend/backend together, so it is possible. 
It all depends on what bitrate you record at. I use 2500kbps, which is a 
little low but the quality is quite good anyway.

But of course, there is no reason to use 10Mbit today. I bought a 100Mbit 
D-link switch (DES-1008D), which unfortunately did not work well with my 
frontend computer so I had to change back to my 10Mbit hub again :-(
