It would help if you could tell us what sort of video card you're using.
But, from general experience, many video cards won't display overlayed
video on the secondary display in Linux. From what I've seen, the
hardware is usually capable of it, but nobody has given the Linux
developers access to appropriate documentation (much of this has to do
with NDA issues, and apparently everyone thinks that all Linux users are
pirates, even if we just want to show our desktops on our TVs)
The main workaround is to not use video overlay, but do software scaling
instead. Unfortunately, there's a performance penalty for doing that.
