[mythtv-users] mythgame and browsing long rom lists

Hmm, good idea. I hadn't really thought about genres, or noticed that
support is there (is it?) I'll have to admit more often than not I just
plug my powerbook into the receiver and use iTunes, but I *really* do like
the visualizations from mythmusic. It's also sometimes sluggish going into
Play music, even when my playlist is small (two albums); but there was some
talk recently about the underlying data structures so I figured this may
change eventually. I will look into choosing a few genres and mass-applying
them to artists which fit (and aren't already tagged by genre) -- and if the
root node structure you mentioned was an idea proposal, consider this a "me
too" vote for it :-)

I ripped all my CD's and feel somewhat similarly. However, I think part of
the answer is to get the genre stuff working for you. Use only a fairly
small subset of genre tags (think more like "mood" tags)
Have a look at a couple of decent tagging programs - easytag seems to be the
best under linux, but there are better things available for windows (perhaps
run under wine?)
The main thing then would be to have multiple root nodes in the listing
tree, one for each type of sort order, eg "by genre", "by artist", etc.
Would this not work for you?
