For some reason unknown to me (I don't know much about video codec
stuff), windows cannot play myth's mpeg4 files, even if they're
rewrapped into something like an avi container.  If all you want to do
is play them in windows, I'd suggest that you record at a good quality
(maybe the highest quality rtjpeg), and then use my nuvexport script to
export to divx, which windows should have no trouble playing.  skip the
whole transcode process completely.

And yes, myth encodes in realtime.  uncompressed video would be about 10
gigs per hour (if it's anything like the raw dv data coming off of my
camcorder).  If you're also seeing a transcode process going, then you
have auto-transcode turned on (not necessarily a good idea to do until
you understand how transcoding and the various formats work).
