No, the wire protocol that the frontends and backends talk with differs
between those versions.

Current CVS is also a newer wire protocol version than the .12 release,
so if you upgrade a backend or frontend you have to upgrade both (and
MythWeb as well since it talks to the backend using the same protocol).
