That's something different.  "Instant Record" was a button on the main
TV Schedule menu.

What you're looking at is the ability to set programs to record/not-record
while you're watching LiveTV and browsing through other shows.  So if you're
watching The Simpsons and browse around and see 'Rocky 10' is about to come on
on then you can hit 'R' to set 'Rocky 10' to record.  Hit 'R' again to
cycle through the various recording schedules (ie, weekly, daily, once, etc.).
