Well, I just tried dct-channel-1.5 with no luck, using the -b or -f switches didn't help either.
Is there a good chance that the cvs version will work?

I am using a straight thru cable connected to /dev/ttyS0

I guess the provider may need to enable the serial port after all,  the other 
script on my box (change-channel by Cedar McKay IIRC) doesn't work either.
