First of all, let me say WOW! mythtv is a GREAT project! Great job
guys!
Now a question :)
I'm kinda new to this whole custome kernel thing, so if I'm making some
horrible mistakes(c) please let me know.
1.I set up my mythtv box on redhat 9 got alsa working fine (both mythtv
and alsa rpms from freshrpms.net), my brooktree card working fine,
everything worked.
2.I then discovered in order for LIRC to change channels on my cable box
I needed to recompile the kernel to move the serial stuff to a module.
So I did that. LIRC works fine.. I can change channels.
3. I then discovered that my alsa drivers had to be recompiled for this
new kernel. Got the srpm for alsa from freshrpms (but discovered that
it required a srpm of your kernel) ..not having an srpm of my custom
kernel of LIRC, I just rpm'ed the source package in , unbzipped the
source package, patched form the srpm , configure, make, make install,
snddevices...
4. modprobed my alsa drivers... everything went fine. played some wavs
with aplay .. fine
5. booted up mythtv and experienced some problems. some of my playback
files play fine, others play for 1 second then go slow motion with no
sound.. log says:
-------------------------------------
ran out of free audio buffers :-(
...
read audio: File descriptor in bad state
only read -1 from 40996 bytes from '/dev/dsp'
...
Delaying to next trigger: 133133404
...
Audio buffer overflow, audio data lost!
-------------------------------------
ahhh... but I do get that one sweet second of sound ... :)
if I switch back to my redhat default kernel everything works fine.
So, do I have to recompile mythtv against the kernel? or am I doing
something wrong with my alsa setup? has anyone experienced this before?
thanks,
Dave
