Apt-get remove afaik will only remove the one I apt-get installed, the
new version I compiled, make, install.

apt-get remove
or
rpm -e
`rpm -e --nodeps xmltv` will work if apt complains about
dependencies. I use this often when I intend to just quickly reinstall
another version .
