I had posted this earlier, but it created it's own thread on gossamer, 
and slipped down the list.

I guarantee this will work.  Back up "/lib/modules/`uname 
-r`/kernel/sound" before #make install.

And remove any references to i810_audio or whatever in /etc/modules.conf

Download the alsa *source* from alsa-projects.org & run:
$./configure --disable-verbose-printk; make
#make install
