[mythtv-users] Playing recordings elsewhere

I read the some of the archives about playing the recordings elsewhere, but it 
seems that the shows recorded w/ mpeg4 are still unplayable by an unpatched 
mplayer.  My original goal was to be able to record TV shows/movies, then 
burn them to VCD so that my DVD player on the bigscreen can play them.  Is 
this possible with MythTV or should I look for some other PVR software?
