Most ATAPI CD-Rom drives should support it. It's rare to find one that won't.
The emulation is done on the software side, so a drive would have to be
really FUBAR not to work.
Let me guess.. your original DVD drive was the 1st drive on your 2nd IDE
controller... then you moved it to the second position on the cable and put
the slimline where it had been. So, now the slimline is /dev/scd0 and your
old drive is /dev/hdd, right?
