Sure does.  How do I start to try to figure out *what* the problem is?  I've 
recompiled the latest kernel (.21) specifically for my hardware and optimized 
for my processor.  I've looked at hdparm settings and those all seem to be 
auto-detected according to the capabilities of the drive.  Performance tuning 
is not my strong suit.  Where do I start?  How can I benchmark the individual 
subsystems to find the problem?
