hi John.. dont know if this will help or not but if i try to display
1024x768 on my cheap zenith TV everything goes B&W... when I change it
back to 800x600 or lower all is well... so.. try a lower res?

heh.. my new problem is that i had it running in KDE and because of
completely different issues (i need to be able to view Japanese named
avi files in KDE through samba) i had changed everything and also
switched to Gentoo linux for better performance (and general curiosity
as i have never install gentoo before) well.. now it does perform better
(still cant get the japanese filenames to work)... BUT when I moved it
to my TV the X server crashes.. moved it back to the monitor and its
fine again... [sigh]... the BIOS takes care of the whole switching from
TV to monitor thing automatically.. and sis frame buffer drivers are
loading and XV extensions are working too so i'm kinda at a loss here...
hmph...
