Couldn't you run top and see if mythbackend is using any CPU? If not
there's little chance she's watching TV anyway. Actually best way to do
it may be to go ahead and just kill it. That way when it breaks she'l
make you fix it when you get home tonight. That way you can play at work
and at home. And at her request no less. You can thank me later.

  Is there anyway to remotely check to see what is happening in mythtv?

just want to know if it's sitting idle/watching show/recording
show/etc...
I'm remotely logged in from work and would like to install the latest 
version, but I don't know if my wife is using it (and I wouldn't want
to interrupt her if she is :-).  Just wondering...
