[mythtv-users] RedHat 9 problems... solution or alternatives?

For me, I found it was the kernel. Compiling 2.4.20 from kernel.org
eliminated this problem completely. It's really pretty painless; grab the
source, fix the symlinks in /usr/src/linux to point to the new source, put
your .config from the previous kernel source in the new directory, and 'make
oldconfig' will have you set up.

I have since switched that machine to Mandrake, since I was having problems
getting the alsa drivers to work under redhat. Mandrake's default kernel
works fine; I actually recompiled with low latency + preemptable kernel
patches and the video plays even more smoothly. This can even be done
installed Mandrake automatically with urpmi if you set that up correctly as
described in the myth howto.

So, if you just want to fix the problem you are having on redhat, in my
experience a kernel recompile with fresh sources will do it. If recompiling
the kernel scares you, another distribution may be the answer.
