With what permissions? I'm not up on the ins and outs of devfs setups, but
I recall seeing on this list some reports of permissions problems with the
v4l devices on such setups. So once again, make sure the userid you run the
script as (probably mythtv) has read and write access to /dev/cua/1 . (One
quick way to do this is to try running "setserial /dev/cua1" as that user
(you appear to be running it as root beloe).

Yes, this part is fine.

Since you are using a modified script that I have not seen, I can't comment
meaningfully on its operation. You might want to send it for examination
(you can send it to me offlist if it is too long for reasonable posting on
the list).

Well ... since the script was modified, I do wonder it is is setting the
right serial-port settings (bps and other stuff) for the "new" RCA box. I
had assumed that those settings were OK since they obviously worked for the
script's author with his equipment.
