Ok, got it to work, but it wasn't easy because there seem to be a lot of
problems with RedHat 9 and ALSA (see
http://www.google.com/search?q=%20unresolved%20symbol%20schedule_work&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8)
I didn't like to option of installing a vanilla kernel which seemed to
be the only option that should work until I finally found one message
(see
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&newwindow=1&safe=off&threadm=b92usp%245c3%241%40online.de&rnum=6&prev=/groups%3Fq%3D%2Bunresolved%2Bsymbol%2Bschedule_work%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3Dutf-8%26newwindow%3D1%26safe%3Doff%26selm%3Db92usp%25245c3%25241%2540online.de%26rnum%3D6)
that suggested a small change to the ALSA driver code (basically
removing the offending symbol from the driver).
Now it works, I just hope that the code I removed doesn't do anything
important :-)
I also added a line 'options snd-via82xx dxs_support=3' to
/etc/modules.conf, but is this line explained somewhere? I didn't find
it in any of the installation docs, either on alsa-project.org or on
mythtv.org.
Thanks for the help and for your patience (which surely was growing thin ;-)
Cheers,
-Tako
