Try morphix instead of knoppix:

It's a cut down Knoppix, with things to help you customise it, and other
improvements. There's even a mention of making a MythTV "MainModule" of it
on their wiki:

Does anybody know what is involved in customing the Knoppix CD to add Myth.
I think this would be a good distribution to use for a frontend box with no
harddrive.  I think there is a way to store your settings and such on a USB
flash drive or what have you.  Any ideas or suggestions?  "Your idea sucks"
are perfectly fine. :-p
