My tv isn't very good, so I admit that I'm not the best source of info. 
Maybe when I get a better tv I'll be outraged to have been rooked into 
buying the web cable plus. But when I got it I didn't know as much 
about linux as I do now and I appreciated the zero config aspect. And I 
don't have any of the overscan/edge issues you have, so the only 
possible complaint would be "quality" which on my tv looks good 
compared to the raw tv signal. Today I would probably buy a cheap 
nvidia, just for the price advantage. And people seem happy with the 
quality too.
