[mythtv-users] IR Blasters to control dishes?

I built the home brew for my star choice box and it works great. I tried
the actsys 200l , but could not get it working reliably. This
transmitter is very easy to build.

they are the IR Blasters from the Tivo/WebTV Boxes. If i were to re-wire

these into a serial port, would it work (e.g. took the two wires coming 
into the minijack port, which i'm assuming are ground and DTR, and put 
them to the appropriate pins on the serial port)?

If not, does anyone have a canadian distributer for serial IR 
transmitters? The snapstream shop wants 25$USD + 15$USD  for their kit
:(
