You go through the exact same thing if you want to use ALSA, or lirc, or 
lm_sensors or whatnot.  It's really no big deal.  In fact, in Debian, it's 
all completely automated -- nvnet and NVdriver get automatically recompiled 
and installed whenever I build a new kernel.
