OOOOKKK,
Well, I've tried all this, I go to the recorded programs section and open a
program, then I just press M to enter the edit mode, then I press Z to load
the cutlist, then I just have to redefine the cutpoints, then I press Esc to
exit the edit mode, then I just press X, well, then it says in the top left:
Transcoding. Then I just press Esc again to stop watching the recording,
then nothing really changes... there is the scissors icon in the bottom
left corner of the "Watch Recording" section... which is normal because it
always does that when I load the cutlist. SOO, I guess I'm just wondering
if there is an icon change... well, I guess I could just load mythbackend
from an XTerm window. But I'm recording something, BUT if I do load
mythbackend with the -v option... then I guess I can see if it's
transcoding. So... err.... not that many questions, but more of how can I
know if I'm transcoding??.. because it doesn't seem like it is...

>From what I've seen, there is semi-working alpha code for this available
either in CVS, or as a patch against CVS (I haven't bothered to figure
out which, since I don't have a PVR card). Check the list archives for
more info.
