This seems odd to me, since mythmusic uses the database, not the filesystem, 
to navigate my music list. None of my music is local, it's all on my server 
via ethernet. I'm using nfs, but it shouldn't make any difference whether the 
directory is mounted via nfs or smb. In fact, I can browse my music list even 
if I have the remote directory unmounted.

Perhaps you have a performance issue with the server the files are on? If it's 
being insanely slow to serve the files, maybe you are seeking a blocking 
issue in MythMusic on those occasions your Myth box is waiting for the smb 
server to fulfill a request? I have considerable experience with Samba and I 
would doubt it's to blame, more likely a networking or fileserver issue that 
is causing halted or stuttered file transfer.

Not much to suggest, sorry. Perhaps try browsing your remote music files 
manually from a terminal or something like Nautilus or Konquerer to see if 
you can see any obvious performance issues, or script up some timing tests. 
As always, check your logs for smb or network errors or timeouts. Watch CPU 
and other resources on the box in realtime to see if anything unusual 
coincides with the problem when it happens. And good luck!
