[mythtv-users] X server on pvr-350 tv-out

How can you ensure that the ivtv-fb is being loaded before X?

I've got mandrake set up to start in runlevel 5 (so X / KDE starts
automatically)

And I've got ivtv-fb set to load before ivtv in modules.conf, so I modprobe
ivtv in rc.local - I also tried in rc5.d (also tried modprobe / insmod
ivtv-fb).

I always get an error in /var/log/XFree86.0.log saying unknown device fb1.

I've know it's fb1, have the pci address, etc...

TV out works fine, but I can't get X to display on the TV (and thus
mythfrontend)

-t

PS typed everything from memory, but looks syntactically correct...

Not sure what you mean by "tv set to /dev/video16"... but:

You have to have the "use PVR-350" box checked, otherwise you will get
the "slow video".

When you get the black screen, do you get sound?

Is the gui for mythfrontend displaying in the tv? if not make sure to
set the display to 0.1 before you run mythfrontend:

$ export DISPLAY=:0.1 && mythfrontend

Do you get the gui? Do you still get the black screen?

If you don't get the gui, make sure that all the ivtv modules get loaded
_before_ you start X. in particular the ivtv_fb module.

hope that helps.
