I to have recompiled qt with gif support and it made no deference.
Having said that i haven't tried the cvs version so i don't no if it 
fixed the problem are not.
I have already set mysql to use query caching and it does help 
performance over all. However it does nothing to help with the channel 
icon loading problem.
