I tried a number of IR type keyboards and found them not very
acceptable. You have to have a clear line to the receiver and they are
quite limited in range. I found that the keyboard and mouse set from
Gyration are very much superior in all respects. They are both RF
devices that interface to a common receiver. The receiver uses a USB
port and works with both RH and Debian out of the box (the only two
distros I tried). The mouse (e.g. gyromouse) is also about the coolest
pointing device I've seen. It can be used as a normal, optical mouse or
you can pick it up and wave it about in the air (hence the "gyro" in the
name). The advertised range on the keyboard I purchased is 25ft but I
have used it from up to 40ft away. They aren't cheep (~$80US) but they
are quality products and Gyration honors their warranty (my mouse
arrived DOA and had to be replaced). More info here:

Doug
