Well, you trimmed the rest of the post, but IIRC you suspected it was
something in FC1? This is unlikely; or rather, it's unlikely to be
distro-related. Auto-mount of removable media (CD, DVD, floppy, Zip,
etc) is usually a daemon-type process controlled by the desktop
environment (KDE, GNOME, etc). Are you running one of these? If so,
search the list archives for 'automount' for some tips on how to
disable it in various desktop environments. Specifically, I think in
KDE there's something in the ${HOME}/.kde/Autostart directory.
