Make sure lirc isnt running when your trying irrecord. Did you mention 
this worked on windows? My homebrew comes up as active low. Is everything 
wired right?

Well, we appear to have hit a problem.
 
When I do an:
 
irrecord accent.conf or a irrecord ?f accent.conf
 
I get the same error, which is saying that nothing has been received for 
10 seconds, and it aborts.
