Is it always dull or just sometimes?  If it's always dull, you can try
resetting the alpha settings with ivtvfbctl.  If that doesn't help, it
could be an ivtv framebuffer problem.

I don't know if the sound card and pvr sound outputs are setup for it,
but you could try muxing them together with a Y cable and running the
merged connection to your switch box.  If not, you'll need to find some
sort of audio multiplexer.

I believe he's using the pvr 350 output so the Xv controls aren't
used.
