But that has nothing to do with the fact that it's automatic or not.  
Believe it or not, some people are ok with being a little less than nazi 
about root on their home machines... especially if it's a dedicated mythtv 
machine.  The great thing about *nix is that it lets you shoot yourself in 
the foot if you prefer that.
