This simply isn't legal. We have the legal right to record TV content for our 
own private use, but not to distribute it to others. Period. This isn't a 
technology thing, it's a copyright issue. You can make a VHS tape of your 
favorite TV show, but you are not allowed to give copies to your friends.

I don't see any way to do this in a way that doesn't lead to illegal sharing, 
since ANY sharing at all of an entire program would be illegal.

Retroactivity is irrelevant. Failure to exercise an option to view or record a 
TV show doesn't give you a right to get it from an unauthorized source. Just 
because you _could_ have recorded it yesterday doesn't mean you have some 
special right copy it from somebody who did.

Of course, most of us see copyright law broken every day. Most people are so 
used to it they don't know what they are doing is illegal. That doesn't make 
it ok though. Since our open source licenses depend on the strength of 
copyright law, I'd rather not see our projects head in directions that will 
obviously weaken it.
