[mythtv-users] Final config issue.

I'm curious as to why you aren't using the svideo output of the Dish receiver? Or does your tuner card not have an svideo input? I figured most did, I have a cheapo PhoebeMicro BT878 tuner card from 6-8 years ago that has svideo and composite inputs and it only cost like $30 back then.

I'm just starting to play with myth, just got it all installed last night but haven't spent any time with it yet. But up until now I've been watching DirecTV using xawtv from the svideo input and the picture quality is FAR better than the modulated coax output. I'm hoping (surely?) that myth can select the svideo or composite inputs as its capture source, since v4l supports it. Then I plan to build a cable and write a plugin/script/whatever to change channels on my Sony DTV receiver via the data (serial) port. I've already found the documentation on the web of most of Sony's serial commands to control the receiver. The ever popular RCA DirecTV receivers can be controlled in the same fashion, although the protocol is different. SnapStream even sells cables for many of these receivers, but I don't recall if Dish receivers are supported or not. I like the hard-wired cable solution better than an IR Blaster solution.
